I recently had the opportunity of taking the Jung Typology test. It was amazing – absolutely amazing! Please take the time to take the test for yourself and take the challenge of learning more about your personality.
My personality type is ESFJ (Extraversion, Sensing, Feeling, Judging). There were many things that were right on and some things that didn’t fit my profile exactly, but overall, it described me well.
I am outgoing and most definitely enjoy interacting and socializing with others. I try to remain practical, but organization is not my strongest point. It’s funny though. My personal life (room, closet, etc.), is not very organized, but my professional life, such as my office and desk, remains organized. I feel more productive if my pens are in order and my papers are stacked.
The ESFJ often has a focus on others and genuine interest in people’s lives. They enjoy helping others. They have a way of encouraging people and making them feel valued. ESFJs may require support from others to affirm that they have done the right thing or made the right choice. They desire appreciation and approval and may feel hurt by the negative response of others. The ESFJ will often strive to meet the expectations of others but should be cautious not to neglect their own needs.
Have I mentioned this test is amazing? That is me in a nutshell. Focusing on others has always been a part of my life. But I have to be careful with that now, because it can easily turn into codependency. I can find myself neglecting my own needs by taking care of others, and soon find myself empty and bitter because of my own choices. Words of affirmation is one of my Love Languages. Knowing I have done a job well done brings me happiness. If not careful with my pride, I can easily be resistant to change. I have struggled all of my life with the need for control, which causes me to resist a lot. However, over the last year I have improved on this immensely.
I prefer to write about people and personal experiences. For those who know my writing style I am sure they would agree that I write with feeling words. Myers-Briggs Type Indicator states I may need to be cautious that my writing does not come across as too emotional or sappy. I tend to disagree with that, unless of course I’m writing about something such as How to Print an Instruction Manual. Emotion is what draws the reader in. It is my opinion that if the readers of my blog can relate to me, they will then continue to read and perhaps get in touch with their own feelings.
This test has given me some extra tips on what to look for, such as: how to work on relationships in the work environment, instructions on not procrastinating, being careful in how I come across to my readers, etc.
Thank you MBTI for this amazing test!
